Things have gone wrong again in Turkey. Once again, extreme violence was witnessed on a football field in the highest division because emotions became too heated and the fuses blew completely. This time a Red Devil stood in the middle of it. Michy Batshuayi was celebrating the away victory with his teammates when a masked hooligan entered the field. The man was looking for a confrontation, because when security people came in his direction, he got ready in a fighting position.

Once the man seemed overpowered, things got completely out of hand. Other spectators and hooligans follow his example and stormed the field. There were skirmishes here and there and Fenerbahçe players had to flee to safety.

Michy Batshuayi headed towards the sideline on the other side, where he felt safe. But when a man came towards him, Batshuayi launched a karate kick backwards, probably with the intention of keeping him at a distance. The man hardly seemed affected by the spectacular kick, as he continued on his way.

Three months ago, the Turkish competition was briefly stopped after a referee was punched and kicked by the club chairman of Ankaragücü. “Enough is enough,” was the voice at the time. But the temporary suspension of the Turkish competition and the muscular language then spoken by the Turkish football players did not chase away the problem.

From hero to hunted game

Before he became the hunted game, Michy Batshuayi was still the big hero of the evening, at least for the visiting team. As a substitute, the Red Devil scored the winning goal for Fenerbahçe against fellow Red Devil Thomas Meunier’s Trabzonspor. He played the entire match, but at the time of the incidents the home team had already entered.

Fenerbahçe led 0-2 at halftime in Trabzon, after two goals from Fred, each on a pass from Dusan Tadic. After the break, Enis Bardhi and old acquaintance Trezeguet ensured that Trabzonspor came alongside, but that was without Batshuayi, who again fulfilled his role as super sub with verve.

With 79 points, Fenerbahçe remains in the wake of leader Galatasaray, which has two points more. Trabzonspor is number three in Turkey, but has no less than 32 points less than the leader.

Dries Mertens scores and provides an assist

Ex-Red Devil Dries Mertens had previously been decisive for Galatasaray, which is fighting for the title together with Fenerbahçe.

Scoring is no problem for Dries Mertens’ team this season. ‘Gala’ also took the lead in the derby against Kasimpasa. Dries Mertens showed off his shot again to make the score 0-1.

Less than seven minutes later it was the unfortunate Mauro Icardi, who missed an eleven meter later in the match, who pushed the ball past his own goalkeeper and thus leveled the score. It was the same Icardi who created a new lead shortly after the break on a pass from Mertens.

Everything went according to coach Buruk’s plan, but Kasimpasa fought back into the game and scored twice through Kara and Da Costa. Dries Mertens, who played 89 minutes, had to respond together with his team. A red card for Kasimpasa player Winck helped, with ten minutes left on the clock something could perhaps still be saved.

Argentinian striker Icardi made it 3-3 with a second goal. In minute 90, Brazilian Carlos Vinicius, who had barely been on the field for a minute, tapped in the redemption goal from close range.
