Vienna State Championships: Success for Galaxy Judo Tigers and Yawara-michi

A total of 220 judoka took part in the Vienna State Championships in various age groups at the weekend. While the Galaxy Judo Tigers were the most successful with ten wins in the U12, U14 and U16 year group in the Kurt Kucera Hall on Saturday, Yawara-michi won the medal rankings with four gold medals on Sunday (U18, U21 and AK). . The Vienna Samurais were the second strongest force on both days.

In the senior judoka on Sunday, Yawara-michi (4-6-3) prevailed ahead of the Vienna Samurais (4-1-0) and the Galaxy Judo Tigers (3-6-0). Behind them were Dinamo Union Vienna (3-4-4) and ASKÖ Graz (2-1-1) as the only clubs from the federal states. The Sportunion Karuna Vienna, Judo AWIAR and Ratiborets also won two class victories, and another went to the Judo Club NG. The number of participants of 66 judoka (61 male, 15 female) from 13 clubs is expandable, but can also be explained by a simultaneous European Cup junior tournament (see below).

On Saturday, the Galaxy Judo Tigers (10-5-7) clearly dominated the three younger classes. SU Karuna Wien (5-3-4), WAT Stadlau (3-2-0) and Judo-Club NG (3-1-4) landed behind the Vienna Samurais (9-6-8). Two gold medals each went to Yawara-michi and Ratiborets, one each to Judo AWIAR, Judoring Vienna and JC Sirvan. 154 judoka (112 boys, 39 girls) from twelve clubs ensured there was a lot of activity on the mats.

Bronze at the U18 European Cup

The Styrian won bronze for Austria at the Under-18 European Cup at the weekend in Porec (CRO). Nina Auer up to 44 kilos and the Mühlviertel woman Claire Pröll (up to 70 kg). A Viennese was also placed: Vardges Ghazaryan (SU Karuna Vienna) took seventh place in the over 90 kilo class. This meant he got a ticket to the Under-18 European Championships in the first of three qualifying tournaments. The other Viennese in Porec – Yann Ornik (SU Karuna / up to 55 kg) and Jakob Sas-Zaloziecki (Galaxy Judo Tigers / up to 66 kg) remained unplaced.
