1,500 Athletes From Seven Countries Compete in Youth Games in Bolivia

The information was provided to the press by the general director of the Bolivian Olympic Committee (Cobol), Mario Quinteros.

Some 1,500 athletes aged 14 to 20 from seven countries in the region will compete in 27 disciplines from this Thursday until the 14th of the current month in the capital of Bolivia.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. local time, however, the Patria stadium, venue of the opening day, will open its doors from 3:00 p.m., according to the organizers.

According to these sources, after the opening words the cauldron will be lit by the world racquetball champion, a native of the department of Chuquisaca, Conrado Moscoso.

Next, there will be two events described as important from the point of view of history and culture, and in one of them the Bolivian singer Luis Vega will perform.

The participating delegations come from Venezuela, Panama, Ecuador, Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Colombia.

Karen Palenque, Vice Minister of Sports, described that the Bolivian youth will participate in athletics, swimming, wrestling, weight lifting, taekwondo, road cycling, indoor soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, judo, karate, Basque pelota, racquetball, squash and boxing.

Other disciplines included in the competitive calendar are fencing, gymnastics, badminton, BMX cycling, tennis, table tennis, archery, triathlon, beach volleyball and MTB cycling.

He explained that these sports promises are in high school and university, and to participate in the international tournament they requested the corresponding permission from their institutions.

Palenque mentioned that the 246 Bolivian athletes are joined by 62 coaches, physiotherapists, kinesiologists and doctors, making a total number of 308 representatives, of which 136 are women.

The vice minister reported that, by department, 84 come from Santa Cruz, 71 from Cochabamba, 50 from Chuquisaca, 44 from La Paz, 24 from Tarija, 18 from Oruro, 12 from Potosí and five from Beni.

Bolivian sports authorities predict that the representation of the Plurinational State will achieve fifth place in the medal table by country.

Sucre has 13 stages ready, among which the Olympic Pool, the Garcilazo Sports Center and the Max Toledo Polygymnasium stand out.

To broadcast the inauguration and the competitions internationally, the general director of the Organizing Committee of the Games and Cobol and the general manager of the state channel Bolivia TV, Julio Valdivia, signed an agreement, as reported.
