Jahn Regensburg suffered a serious defeat in the fight for promotion. The Upper Palatinate lost the top game of the 3rd league at league leaders Ulm 0-1 (0-0) and are now four points behind.

Setback for Jahn Regensburg. Coach Joe Enochs’ team had to admit defeat 0-1 (0-0) against league leaders Ulm in the top game. After a balanced game in the first half, the Ulm team took their side in the second half and deservedly won in the end. The scorer of the golden goal was Felix Higl (70th). The “Spatzen” are now four points ahead of Regensburg at the top of the 3rd league. The distance between the Upper Palatinate and the relegation place is three points.

Slight advantages for Regensburg in the first half

The guests from Upper Palatinate recorded slight advantages in a hard-fought top game. Noah Ganaus tested Ulm keeper Ortag in the seventh minute with a shot from the edge of the penalty area. After half an hour there was another duel between the two players – again with the better end for the goalkeeper. This time he parried against Ganaus from a tight angle, after which Regensburg’s cross was just poked away by an Ulm player (30′). There were initially no more opportunities in a game that was otherwise poor in chances.

Scienza dances out Regensburg – Higl shocks Jahn

Goal area scenes were also few and far between in the second half. The “Sparrows” dominated the game. After just under an hour, Felix Higl made an exemplary header into Lennart Stoll’s path, but his finish was too central. Jahn keeper Felix Gebhardt was able to parry the ball. But a good ten minutes later he was powerless. Ulm’s Leonardo Scienza danced his way through Regensburg’s midfield and then put through for Higl. The hosts’ striker stayed ice-cold in front of Gebhardt and scored to give Ulm the lead (70′).

Regensburg had a hard time. The offensive efforts of the Enochs team did not go beyond shots from the second row. The hosts could have even increased the score in the final phase. Shortly before the final whistle, Gebhardt had to clear a header from Philipp Strompf off the line (89′). Not much happened in the six minutes of injury time before Jonas Bauer shot again in the penalty area. But his finish was too central and not a problem for Ortag. Then referee Christian Dingert blew the whistle.

The next top game awaits Regensburg next weekend. Then the Upper Palatinate Dynamo welcome Dresden.
