The World Endurance Championship paid tribute to the memory of the Brazilian who died on May 1, 1994, a few days before the thirtieth anniversary of his dramatic accident.

Special envoy to Imola

The memory of Ayrton Senna hovered over the Imola circuit this Sunday just before 1 p.m. when the Italian anthem sounded before the start of the 6 Hours of Imola, second round of the World Endurance Championship. The organizers paid tribute to the Brazilian driver who died on the transalpine route on May 1, 1994, a few days before the thirtieth anniversary of his death. A huge banner was displayed at the end of the pit straight with the helmeted face of the three-time Formula 1 world champion, who died after a terrible accident during the San Marino Grand Prix at the wheel of his Williams-Renault.

At home, the #50 Ferrari started in pole position for the event in the Hypercar category. Antonio Fuoco set the best time at the Hyperpole on Saturday ahead of another Ferrari, the No. 83 of Robert Shwartzmann. The two French manufacturers, Peugeot and Alpine, had experienced difficult qualifying. Peugeot, which is entering the new version of its 9X8 into competition for the first time, started in 14th position with the No. 94 and in 15th position with the No. 93. Alpine was just behind with its two Hypercars, the #35 and the #17.
