Air Force Women’s Basketball Coach Announces Retirement After Nearly a Decade

US AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (KKTV)-The head coach of the Air Force women’s basketball team announced her retirement on Monday.

The Academy shared the following statement from coach Chris Gobrecht after nearly a decade with the Falcons:

“After 44 years of giving everything I had in the best job in the world, I have made the decision to retire as a coach. I’ve known for a while that this day would come, but I didn’t think it would be so difficult. The love I have for this Air Force team, the gratitude I feel for the incredible support and encouragement provided by this administration and my fellow coaches, and the respect I have for the United States Air Force Academy, make This decision is more difficult than I ever imagined.”

“It has been the greatest coaching privilege to serve as the Falcons’ head women’s basketball coach for the past nine years. My heart struggles to leave now with such a wonderful, talented and enjoyable team returning, but it’s simply time. Throughout my career, I have worked with a life philosophy of making sure I leave things a little better than they were when I got there. Achieving that goal throughout my career is what allows me to leave this great profession now with a sense of peace.”

“I want to thank Lieutenant General Clark, Mr. Nathan Pine, Ms. Jen Block, Ms. Nancy Hixson, Mr. Shondell Reed and my indispensable team of coaches, for caring so much and giving, to our cadets- athletes and our efforts, every day.”

“May God bless and protect all our men and women in uniform.”

Gobrecht had a record of 84 wins and 189 losses while in the Air Force.
