This weekend, kickboxing France crowned a new champion. Alexis Nicolas achieved the feat of beating Regian Eersel to capture his One Championship belt. After that, he sent a big message about Cédric Doumbé, to whom he is often compared.
If Morgan Charrière’s fight was particularly followed and sparked strong reactions following the controversial result, if her compatriot Nora Cornolle impressed with a brutal knockout during the same evening, it was in Thailand that the biggest feat of the weekend for a French fighter took place. Indeed, Alexis Nicolas had the opportunity to write history and he did not tremble.
Opposed to the one who is nicknamed the “Immortal” because of his series of 22 consecutive victories since 2016, the tricolor produced the best performance of his career. In the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Alexis Nicolas became the first French champion in the history of One Championship, the largest organization on the Asian continent.
Alexis Nicolas cash on comparisons with Cédric Doumbé
Unsurprisingly, the comparison with Cédric Doumbé was quickly made, since he could become his successor as the standard-bearer of blue-white-red version of kickboxing. After his coronation against Regian Eersel, the 25-year-old Parisian spoke on this subject in a fairly firm tone. He clearly refuses to be compared to “The Best”, he wants to be the hero of his own story.

With all the respect I have for my brother Cédric Doumbe, I am writing my own story.

No, contrary to what one might think, Alexis Nicolas does not denigrate the legacy of Cédric Doumbé in foot-to-fist boxing. This message is aimed more at the media, whom he asks to stop making futile comparisons. He is in another organization, has another style in the ring, so he wants us to highlight his story, his journey, his exploits, without necessarily linking them to the PFL superstar.
It’s up to him to continue writing his story in the coming months, becoming a dominant champion in this talented organization. And who knows, if he continues to win and becomes the new invincible man of kickboxing, he could even surpass the legend of Doumbé in the discipline. What is certain is that we will follow this closely.
Combat sports in France are doing well, as evidenced by the coronation of Alexis Nicolas at the One Championship. It’s up to him to continue on the path to success and string together great performances. Being a champion requires even more demands.
