Seeing the Packers go out and pay top-dollar for free agent Xavier McKinney was somewhat surprising. However, at just 24 years old, players with McKinney’s experience and upside don’t hit the open market very often, especially ones with his playmaking ability. Green Bay desperately needed to add an all-around difference-maker to the back end of their defense, and it appears they have done that with McKinney. That said, the job still isn’t finished. They had one of the worst safety rooms in the NFL last season, and one player didn’t fix everything. Even though this safety year’s class is a tad underwhelming, there are still some intriguing options to pair with McKinney. Prospects like Utah’s Cole Bishop or Oregon State’s Kitan Olapado could be ideal fits to play down in the box while McKinney is roaming deep. Meanwhile, Georgia’s Javon Bullard is also a potential option, as he has plenty of reps at single-high and could be interchangeable with McKinney. Whichever route they decide to go, Green Bay will likely draft one, if not two, safeties using their 11 picks.
