BBL: Bonn and Würzburg lose

The Champions League winner stumbles, the competition in the play-in places wins.

Telekom Baskets Bonn surprisingly missed out on a win in the race for direct play-off qualification in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL). The Champions League winner lost to second-to-last Hakro Merlins Crailsheim 89:98 (39:49) and is now in seventh place, one win behind Rasta Vechta. The fourth-placed Würzburg Baskets also unexpectedly stumbled against the Rostock Seawolves (86:95).

In the further race for places in the play-in tournament, in which the teams ranked seven to ten will fight for two places in the knockout round, Hamburg Towers and EWE Baskets Oldenburg celebrated successes. The Towers (10th place) beat the MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg (8th) in their own hall with 89:84 (48:46). Oldenburg consolidated ninth place ahead of Hamburg with an effortless 87:66 (37:33) at Löwen Braunschweig.
