Behind the Scenes Troubles: Issues at PSG’s Training Center in Poissy

Since his arrival at the head of Paris Saint-Germain, QSI has always been very attached to the image given by the capital club. The recruitment of stars like Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr and even Kylian Mbappé has allowed Paris to shine internationally and develop its brand more than ever. Suffice it to say that qualification for the semi-finals of the Champions League is very good news at all levels for the French champions, who will be able to fill their pockets thanks to the bonuses paid by UEFA but also all revenues (tickets, merchandising) linked to the match against Borussia Dortmund.

Many problems at the training center

Everything is going well in the best of all possible worlds for the residents of the Parc des Princes. Well, almost everything is fine. Indeed, the Parisians have to manage an important problem behind the scenes. A problem which does a little damage to the image that the Ile-de-France team wants to convey. This Friday, our colleagues from The Team have published an article on the underside of the new PSG training center based in Poissy. And we are far, very far even, from the dream life. The sports daily explains that the French club, which left the Camp des Loges in Saint-Germain-en-Laye around three months ago, is facing several problems.

The methods of the new head of education, Mehdi Rahoui, are not unanimous. They are considered far too strict by some. We also evoke more distrust and “a lack of recognition for the work carried out by the teaching staff”. The sports daily also specifies that an internal investigation into harassment has been requested from the PSG Social and Economic Committee. Like him, Lucas Vigneron, administrative manager, is also singled out for his attitude. In addition to these concerns, PSG must deal with problems related to teaching staff (numerous sick leave, departures for not having agreed to move from a permanent contract to a fixed-term contract). All of this impacts young players.

Totally crazy revelations

The Team explains for example that students who are going to take the Baccalaureate at the end of the year have only had a Spanish teacher since the beginning of March. Moreover, several of them, including Ethan Mbappé, have to take private lessons on the side to make up for the delay at the training center. Parents have generally complained about the quality of teaching to the various educational managers and the PSG. The conditions in which the players study are also criticized (collapsing ceiling, water leaks, lack of heating, etc.).

All this weighs on the morale of the families, who are very annoyed and who speak of an empty shell to evoke the Poissy center, and of the young players, who are closely monitored. For its part, the PSG defended itself regarding the absences of the teaching staff (1.36% of hours were not ensured) and explained that all these changes required a little time and effort. But the objective of the club is to improve the education and management of young people in general. Obviously, there is still work to be done given the problems exposed by our colleagues.
