Casper Ruud got the better of Hubert Hurkacz in two sets during the round of 16 of the Masters 1000 in Monte-Carlo. The Norwegian could cross paths with Ugo Humbert in the next round.
Casper Ruud has not lost his touch. After Alejandro Tabilo, it was Hubert Hurkacz who lost to the Norwegian during the round of 16 of the Masters 1000 in Monte-Carlo. The start of the match was marked by great solidity in service. In fact, we had to wait until the fifth game to see the first break point even though there had never been more than two points lost by whoever started until then. However, Casper Ruud lacked efficiency to take Hubert Hurkacz’s service but it gave him ideas. After easily holding his serve, the Norwegian put the Pole under pressure again and the latter gave in at the end of the seventh game. An advantage which proved to be definitive in this first set. As soon as the opportunity to serve for the set presented itself, the world number 10 had to try three times to take the lead in this meeting.

The second round was initially the opposite of the first. This time, Casper Ruud immediately took the lead over Hubert Hurkacz and did not let the number 10 seed of the tournament breathe. With two break points converted out of four obtained during the first two passes at the Pole’s service, the Norwegian offered himself a nice cushion by leading four games to nothing in a very short time. It was then three clean games won by the server which animated this meeting before Casper Ruud tried to conclude on the commitment of his opponent. Nevertheless, Hubert Hurkacz had enough pride to dismiss three match points and force Casper Ruud to conclude on his own serve. If the Pole was able to rule out a first opportunity to conclude for his opponent, the second was the good one (6-4, 6-2 in 1h14′) A success which allows the Norwegian to reach the quarter-finals of the Masters 1000 in Monte -Carlo for the second time in his career. He will find Lorenzo Sonego or Ugo Humbert there.
