Defending champion Every Swiatek has again reached the semi-finals at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix 2024. However, she had to stretch a lot in the 7:6 (2), 6:3 against Porsche brand ambassador Emma Raducanu.

The first 20 minutes alone were tough. Swiatek quickly made it 40-0, but in the end it was Raducanu who managed the opening break – thanks to strong returns and offensive play. The Brit then had to go over seven (!) times, but didn’t use any of her five balls to make it 2-0 – especially a short ball that she shot out of bounds in a kind of intermediate shot between forehand and smah.
Swiatek broke instead, after which both players held their service. The match in set 1: high-class – above all, Raducanu could hardly be pushed away from the baseline, which meant Swiatek was missing the angles he liked. In the tiebreak, however, it was the Pole who scored early; there were six winners at 7:1, in which Raducanu played a little too passively. With consequences.
In the second round, the world number one Swiatek managed a break to zero, Raducanu had to fend off five chances for a double break in the further course, but showed her great fighting spirit. In the end, Swiatek managed to win.
“It was a close game, I didn’t take advantage of many break opportunities,” said Stuttgart specialist Swiatek.
Raducanu can leave Stuttgart with his head held high after a total of three strong performances. She will make up around 80 places in the WTA rankings and get a taste of the top 200 again. After almost completely missing 2023, a good thing.
Swiatek in the semi-final against Rybakina
Swiatek, now unbeaten in all ten meetings at the Porsche Arena, will face Elena Rybakina in the semi-finals on Saturday, who won in three sets against Jasmine Paolini in the first quarter-final of the day.
In the evening Coco Gauff will play against Marta Kostyuk, looking for the semi-final opponent for Aryna Sabalenka.
