Dynamo Dresden Fires Coach Markus Beginning After Disappointing Defeat: Interim Coaching Team Takes Over

That’s it!

Dynamo Dresden fired coach Markus Beginning after the 2-0 defeat against Viktoria Köln.

Assistant coach Heiko Scholz, U19 coach Willi Weiße and idol Ulf Kirsten, who works as a sporting advisor at the club, will take over on an interim basis until the end of the season.

Managing director David Fischer: “We have come to the realization that the quality of the team has become increasingly rare over the course of the season. Because of this, we have now decided to take this step in order to provide an impetus in the last few games.”

“It was the well-known topic of the last few weeks and months. “We don’t score any goals and we defend poorly,” Beginn admitted after the final whistle, visibly depressed. Shortly afterwards he lost his job in Dresden.

With kick-off, the fans in the K-Block remember the promotion heroes of 2004, who sensationally made it to the 2nd Bundesliga under legendary coach Christoph Franke, with a choreo worth seeing.

“Neither money nor prospects, but heart and character,” is how the supporters summarize the miracle of that time on a giant banner.

Definitely an allusion to the current situation, in which the coffers are well-filled, but promotion threatens to become increasingly out of sight despite the best conditions.

The first half doesn’t offer any hope of improvement. Dynamo Dresden tried hard, but hardly made any move to the goal. The picture is similar to that of the last games: the team seems unsettled, and the flow of the game and creativity suffer as a result.

It was only in the last ten minutes before the break that coach Markus beginning’s team seemed a little more determined, Zimmerschied and Will had their first chances of the game.

But at the break it was goalless in front of another 30,000 spectators (!). Also because on the other side at least keeper Kevin Broll is showing normal form.

Curious: Shortly before the half-time whistle, Coach was convulsing in pain on the sideline, holding his right shoulder.

“I was run over by the linesman and was probably a little too close to the sideline,” the coach explained after the game. And adds with gallows humor: “I also lost the duel.”

After the break, the beginning is back on the sidelines. And he has to watch as his team continues to run doggedly but remain unlucky.

Cologne Gate with a bland aftertaste

When Cologne took the lead out of nowhere through Handle (67th) in the middle of Dresden’s pressure phase, it was back to 180. And this time rightly so!

Because Zimmerschied is clearly fouled in front of the goal. But referee Dr. Max Burda lets the game continue. It all just comes together.

In the end, time is running out mercilessly for the people of Dresden – and with it the promotion they had hoped for. And despite all the trouble, one thing remains clear: That’s simply far too little for the 2nd league!

Beginning: “I expected more from the boys. I have to be honest.”

It was his last statement as Dynamo coach. A few hours after the game, the club management had to act.
