Expansion of Sports Infrastructure and Talents Program in Manizales

  • 2,000 million pesos would be for sports infrastructure.
  • The “Talents” project would be expanded from two to six disciplines.

The mayor, Jorge Eduardo Rojas Giraldo, managed with the Ministry of Sports the study of a budget addition for the skatedrome and the major coliseum of Manizales, for this purpose an infrastructure committee was created that will determine the scope of the works, which will be used in the first National Youth Games 2024, to be held in November, in the coffee region.

“The exterior lighting of the skatedrome has a value of 843 million pesos, the façade and adaptation of the complementary areas in the main coliseum has a cost of 1,200 million pesos and the technical visit was authorized to establish if the lot in the lower part of the Popular Forest serves us for the climbing wall that includes the bouldering and speed wall,” said the Secretary of Sports, Diego Fernando Espinosa Benjumea.

The studies that will determine the viability of installing the climbing structure (climbing wall) will be carried out in the El Prado Popular Forest, Baja Switzerland and Yarumos. Once a scenario is approved, the Ministry, together with the Municipal Administration, will proceed with the installation, which will be used in the National Youth Games. This project costs around two billion pesos.

Talents Program

On the other hand, the Secretary of Sports of Manizales met with the president of the Colombian Olympic Committee, Ciro Solano, to manage the “Talents” project for which applications for mountain biking and cycling have been approved. Karate, judo, wrestling and gymnastics are expected to feature.

“This project consists of the Colombian Olympic Committee providing coaches for the city of Manizales in order to work with children between the ages of 12 and 14. This seeks to increase the city’s sports breeding ground,” the official added.
