Fip European Padel Championships, record countries registered in Cagliari

Rome, 3 April. (askanews) – A popularity that knows no end, between chasing records and the consensus of the general public. And it is no coincidence that a record number of countries – 30 for men, 21 for women – have made pre-registration official for the thirteenth edition of the FIP European Padel Championships, scheduled in Sardinia, in Cagliari, from 22 to 27 July 2024. A remarkable figure, which confirms the unstoppable growth of the discipline and – we read in a note – the feverish anticipation for a constantly expanding international team event, which this year will be hosted in Italy and organized by the FIP (International Padel Federation ) and by the FITP (Italian Tennis and Padel Federation) and which returns to a Region which, after the international events of recent years, is increasingly confirmed as the ‘Island of padel’. It will therefore be a record-breaking European Championship, with the high number of requests which confirms the effectiveness of the synergy and teamwork between FIP and national federations for the diffusion and growth of padel.

In the previous edition of the event (2021) in Marbella, Spain, 29 teams participated, 16 male and 13 female, compared to the 51 who will take to the field in Cagliari. A trend which, among other things, underlines the increase – already highlighted by the FIP Seniors World Padel Championships 2024 – in the number of participating countries at women’s level. Once the registrations have been confirmed, the FIP will organize a qualification phase if there are – as probable – more than 16 national teams at the starting line of the FIP European Padel Championships 2024, with the top ten nations in the ranking directly admitted to the final phase. The remaining six will exit the qualification path. Once the 16 participating nations have been defined, the FIP European Padel Championships for national teams will begin with a group stage and four groups each made up of four countries: the first two countries in each group will win the right to compete for positions 1 to 8, the countries ranked third and fourth in the group stage will play positions 9 to 16. Each national team will be made up of a minimum of six and a maximum of eight players, both in the men’s competition so feminine. Appointment therefore in Cagliari, the fourth Italian city to host the FIP European Padel Championships after Lido di Savio (1995, inaugural edition), Bologna (2005) and Rome (2019).
