Former Michigan Star Denard Robinson Arrested for Suspected OWI in Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Denard Robinson, a former star quarterback at Michigan and the Wolverines’ assistant director of player personnel, was arrested early Monday on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated after a single-vehicle crash in Ann Arbor, a police spokesperson said.

Chris Page, strategic communications manager for the Ann Arbor Police Department, said Robinson was arrested at approximately 3:05 a.m. following a crash near the intersection of State Street and Eisenhower Parkway. Charges are pending toxicology results, Page said.

Michigan released this statement: “We are aware of an incident involving Denard Robinson and have suspended him indefinitely. We will continue to monitor the situation and will have no further comment at this time.”

Robinson rushed for 4,495 yards at Michigan, the second-most in program history and the most in NCAA history for a quarterback. He was a fifth-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2013 and worked for the organization as a scout before he was hired at Michigan in 2022 to work in the player personnel department.

Robinson is the second member of Michigan’s football staff to be arrested on suspicion of OWI in the past two months. Greg Scruggs, newly hired as Michigan’s defensive line coach, was arrested in March with a blood alcohol content twice the legal limit, according to Ann Arbor police. He later resigned his position.
