Hydron will build the largest green methanol plant in Europe in the Port of Huelva |

Hydron, a business unit of Grupo Ansasol specialized in green hydrogen, will launch the largest green methanol plant in all of Europe in the Port of Huelva. This is the MetGreenPort project, which will mark a milestone in the economy, sustainability and the environment both in Spain and in the European Union, as reported in a press release.

Specifically, MetGreenPort pursues the production of green methanol, using green hydrogen generated through the electrolysis of water, which will be powered with renewable energy and carbon dioxide captured from gases from nearby industries. Thus, this project is part of the Ansasol Group’s commitment to the development of green hydrogen, for which the company has Hydron, a business unit specialized in promoting this energy vector and which already registers 1.6 GW of power. electrolyzation in Spain. In this way, Grupo Ansasol positions itself as one of the companies with one of the most ambitious green hydrogen development plans on the energy scene.

The plant, built in the facilities of the Port Authority of Huelva (APH), together with other development projects established in the area, will turn the region into one of the main energy pilots of the European Union.

Likewise, the concession granted to Hydron by the Port Authority of Huelva is part of a comprehensive project that will connect MetGreenPort with other plants of the business unit in Extremadura and Andalusia. This initiative makes the Ansasol Group project one of the largest in the European Union, with an electrolyzation capacity of up to 800MW.

In this way, MetGreenPort will consolidate Huelva as one of the main energy hubs of the European Union, giving rise to the creation of a new industry aligned with the objectives of sustainability, environmental conservation and decarbonization. Thus, this project will stimulate the economy and promote the development of green hydrogen in Spain, generating employment, promoting innovation and promoting environmental education.

In the first phase, scheduled for 2027, the construction and start-up of the e-methanol production plant will be carried out, with a capacity of 150,000 tons. In the second phase, scheduled for 2029, Enagás infrastructure intended for the transport of green hydrogen will allow the interconnection of up to one million tons.
