Iván Gandía Joins Santeros de Aguada, Could Make Debut Against Cangrejeros de Santurce in BSN Tournament

Point guard Iván Gandía joined the Santeros de Aguada from Lithuania in recent days and could be playing this Thursday against the Cangrejeros de Santurce on the second day of the 2024 National Superior Basketball (BSN) tournament.

The match – to be held at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum, home of the Cangrejeros – will also mark the Santeros’ return to the league, after playing the last three seasons in Fajardo.

Santeros management bought Gandía’s contract from Lithuania to integrate him into the team from the start of the tournament, said his co-agent Joel López.

Gandía’s participation, however, will be known before this Thursday’s game due to an ankle injury, López said.

Gandía was playing in Lithuania with the Jonava club. He played 22 games and averaged 7.8 points and 3.6 assists in 19.2 minutes per game.

“He (Gandía) came with an ankle injury and I would say he is already 90% complete. He has been with us for several days and has been practicing. I understand that tomorrow (Thursday) before the game, we will know if he will be playing or not,” López told El Nuevo Día.

In the last tournament, Gandía reported to Fajardo in May in the final part of the regular series, after finishing in Latvia. Fajardo did not advance to the postseason.

López, in turn, announced that they made an offer to former NBA player, Davon Reed, selected in the second round of the last draft.

Reed already finished his participation in the G-League in recent days. With Memphis Hustle he averaged 13.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.

“He already has an offer from us and we are waiting for a response. We are hopeful that he will sign and play for us,” López said.

Reed debuted with the National Team in the first AmeriCup qualifying window last February.
