For Jannik Sinner, the first game on clay in 2024 did not end as desired. In the doubles at the ATP 1000 Masters in Monte Carlo he had to say goodbye to Lorenzo Sonego in round one.

Together with his friend Lorenzo Sonego, he received a wildcard for the doubles tournament and met the Belgian duo Joran Veilen and Sander Gille on Monday evening.

In a hard-fought game that was decided in a champions tiebreak in the third set, the Azzurri lost 7-6, 5-7 and 7-10.

For Sinner it is now time to concentrate fully on the individual. The 22-year-old from Sesto will take part in the tournament on Wednesday after a bye in the first round. His opponent will be determined on Tuesday morning in the game between Sebastian Korda (ATP 27) and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (ATP 29).
