The club the player plays for Indonesian National team Jay Idzes and the team that was strengthened by Egy Maulana Vikri and Witan Sulaeman was subject to FIFA sanctions.
Based on FIFA data released in January 2024, there are hundreds of clubs throughout the world, including Indonesia, which are prohibited from registering new players, aka being hit by a registration ban.
On the list there are several foreign clubs that are familiar to Indonesian football fans.
Serie B club, Venezia FC is included in the list of clubs affected by registration ban sanctions. The Serie A resident in the 1990s is now being defended by the Indonesian national team player, Jay Idzes.
The squad nicknamed I Lagunari was recorded as receiving a registration ban as of early 2024 with the duration of the player registration ban being three periods or one and a half seasons.
The former club that Egy Maulana Vikri and Witan Sulaeman played for, FK Senica, also received the same punishment. The Slovak league club has been sanctioned by FIFA since 2022.
Meanwhile, the five Indonesian clubs listed on the ban registration list are Persiwa Wamena, Persija Jakarta, Persikab Bandung Regency, Persiraja Banda Aceh, and Sada Sumut FC.
Based on the AP report, registration ban is a sanction that prevents clubs from registering new players after recruiting. Clubs can still bring in new players, but because they cannot be registered with the national association, the players concerned cannot play.
Sanctions can be lifted when the sanctioned club pays off its affairs, such as what Al Nassr did with Leicester City. Penalties can also be frozen if the club carries out an appeal process and will only take effect until the appeal is completed.
