The later the evening, the better Jordan Thompson

As an opponent of Jordan Thompson, you should be warned by now: the Australian simply doesn’t give up a match. Rafael Nadal had this experience in Brisbane at the beginning of the season when he was unable to convert two match points. On the way to his tournament victory in Los Cabos, Thompson also played two marathon matches, including against Alexander Zverev. And now, together with Aleksandar Kovacevic, he has entered the record books of the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Houston.

Thompson and Kovacevic gave each other three hours and 34 minutes. The latter was unable to use two match points in the second and one in the third. Then Thompson took hold and finally won 4:6, 7:6 (1) and 7:6 (7).

Jordan Thompson will now face defending champion Frances Tiafoe in the quarterfinals. He, in turn, had his hands full with another Australian, James Duckworth. In the end, he was able to hold his own with 6:2, 6:7 (4) and 7:5.

Tournament favorite Ben Shelton is back in action today. Shelton will play Brandon Nakashima in the round of eight.
