Latvian National History Museum Receives Bronze Medal and Books from Latvian Hockey Federation for Safekeeping

As the annual World Hockey Championship approaches, the Latvian National History Museum received from the Latvian Hockey Federation (LHF) a bronze medal, as well as two books about hockey, as evidence of the success of Latvian hockey players in the 2023 championship, for safekeeping for future generations, according to the information available on the LHF website.

“One of the priorities of replenishing the museum’s collection is the collection of evidence of Latvia’s 21st century history in order to preserve the objects and the stories related to them in the museum. The contemporary history items in the collection reflect a wide variety of economic, political, cultural-historical and everyday life areas, where sports also play an important role. Latvian athletes, with their outstanding achievements in various sports, bring Latvia’s name to the world,” said Anita Meinarte, deputy director of LNVM, in the collection work.

According to her, “hockey is much more important to us than a popular sport. Every year, the games of the Latvian national team at the World Hockey Championships, which usually take place in May, take over the minds and hearts of a very large part of society – we are all united and proud of both our hockey players and our country. The bronze medal won at the 2023 World Championship, which was also made in Latvia by SIA “GEKA”, and the books “Latvija var” and “Dream Team” will be available for viewing in the museum from today, but will then be kept in storage as a bright message for the future of Latvia today “.
