Twenty-five-year-old Kordová won by two shots ahead of Maia Starková from Sweden. In addition, the weather complicated the tournament for the golfers, so they had to play 25 holes on the last day due to the Saturday postponement.

The daughter of former Czech tennis player Petr Korda, representing the USA, claimed the second major success of her career. For the first time, the elite category dominated the tournament in 2021 at the Women’s PGA Championship.

On the LPGA circuit, Kordová won her thirteenth title overall and fifth in a row, a feat accomplished by only two Hall of Famers before her. Swedish Annika Sörenstam (2004-2005) and American Nancy Lopez (1978).

“Finally, she can breathe freely. The last nine holes were the longest nine holes of my life. And it was also quite hard work, but I’m happy that I won,” Kordova was quoted as saying by AP.

“The last few weeks were really incredible. I played knowing that I could extend the winning streak. I closed myself in my own bubble, I played simply and it was fun,” she added.

After her triumph, Kordová followed the tradition of tournament winners and jumped into the lake by the green of the 18th hole.
