At the request of the dpa news agency, SCM managing director Marc-Henrik Schmedt referred to the association’s legal counsel. The law firm, which specializes in sports law, said that the club was doing “everything possible to clarify the matter, both now and as part of proceedings before the relevant committees of the association.”

Portner appeared “shocked” on Instagram. He deeply regrets the situation and will do everything in his power to demonstrate “that I have not violated any anti-doping regulations and that I have always acted in accordance with the values of sport and will act in the future,” wrote Portner. He is temporarily suspended from training and competition; Magdeburg will have to do without Portner in the cup semi-final against Füchse Berlin on Saturday.
