Quindian Badminton Players Shine in Debut at I Bolivarian Youth Games

The Quindians Sergio Zapata and Nicolás Morales had an extraordinary debut in the singles and mixed doubles of the badminton tournament of the I Bolivarian Youth Games that began in the city of Sucre, Bolivia.

In singles, Zapata debuted with a 2-0 victory with partials of 21-8 and 21-10 over Chilean Bruno Mora, and will face Peruvian José Rendón in the quarterfinals.

Morales, for his part, advanced directly to the quarterfinals and will play his way to the semifinal against the Peruvian Sharum Durand, number two seed in the draw.

In women, Laura Valentina Galeano won 2-0 with partials of 21-5 and 21-4 over the Bolivian Melanie Salvatierra, to advance to the quarterfinals in which she will face the Venezuelan Mariangel García.

In the other part of the draw, the Colombian Sara Hurtado also advanced directly to the quarterfinals and will face the Chilean Rosa Quilodrán, who in the round of 16 defeated the Venezuelan Lusbeth Sánchez.

Finally, in mixed doubles, the two Colombian couples defeated the local Bolivian couples 2-0, and will face the quarterfinals against the Chilean couples in search of double passage to the semifinals.
