Rafael Nadal Withdraws from ATP Masters in Monte Carlo due to Ongoing Injury Issues

The 22-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal cannot compete at the ATP Masters in Monte Carlo (April 6th to 14th).

“My body just won’t allow it,” the 37-year-old explained his cancellation on social media on Thursday. The Spaniard recently had to miss the Australian Open, the Masters in Indian Wells and the ATP tournament in Doha.

“Even though I work hard and give everything every day to take part in tournaments that were very important to me, unfortunately I can’t play today,” said Nadal: “You have no idea how difficult it is for me, not being able to play these events.”

The tournament in Monte Carlo is the first Masters of the year on clay and an important part of the preparations for the French Open (May 20th to June 9th). Nadal had dominated the Grand Slam in Paris almost without exception in the past and had already won 14 times.

At the beginning of the year, the 2008 Olympic champion had problems with his thigh, and in 2023 he suffered a hip injury. In the previous two decades, numerous injuries prevented the clay court king from achieving further success.
