Casper Ruud won his biggest career title to date in Barcelona.
It was not uncommon for Casper Ruud to be criticized for his previous title haul on the ATP Tour. Although the Norwegian had 10 tournament victories on his resume before the triumph in Barcelona, all successes were in the 250 category. With the final win of the 500 tournament in Barcelona against Stefanos Tsitsipas, this wall has now been broken.
And this success could be a special sign, especially with the start of the clay court season. On the one hand, for himself, as Casper Ruud can gather a lot of energy and self-confidence for his favorite surface, especially through the course of the tournament. But also to the competition, who have now clearly understood that the 25-year-old is also a force to be reckoned with this tennis summer.
Ruud has already played three major finals
Casper Ruud was in the final against Tsitsipas at the Masters in Monte Carlos the week before and missed his greatest triumph to date. With three Grand Slam finals, the chance to win the big title was already close, even at the highest level. The best Norwegian player has long proven that he is a world class player. The title in Barcelona is certainly a good basis for a renewed attack on the big prizes.
