A curious penalty scene costs Nuremberg the equalizer

As of: 8:52 p.m. | Reading time: 3 minutes

1. FC Nürnberg remained winless for the fifth game in a row. The next home defeat came against Paderborn. The Franconians missed a penalty in the most curious way. Schalke 04 also missed a win.

1. FC Nürnberg missed the redemptive 40-point mark in the second division again. The Franconians lost 0-2 (0-1) against SC Paderborn on Friday evening. It was the third home defeat in a row for the “Club”, which has not won in five games. 37 points still mean no salvation. Adriano Grimaldi (10th minute) and Visar Musliu (61st) scored against the weakly defending and poorly finishing Nuremberg team. Paderborn improved to 43 points.

Curious: Can Uzun’s supposed 1-1 in the 55th minute didn’t count because the youngster shot the ball with his right foot onto his left foot after a slight slip when he converted his penalty kick from the spot. Because of the double contact, the goal did not count – as did two Nuremberg offside goals.

The guests could have led higher at the beginning. Sirlord Conteh hit the post (30th). In the cold, wet Max Morlock Stadium, Lukas Schmelzer, Uzun and Jannes Horn missed the 1-1 in quick succession. The good Paderborn goalkeeper Pelle Boevink saved twice. Substitute Joseph Hungbo revived Nuremberg’s offensive game and also won the penalty. Muslius 0:2 after a corner was Nuremberg’s 15th goal conceded with a header.

Elversberg has victory on its feet

Schalke 04 missed a breakthrough in the fight to stay in the league. The Bundesliga relegated team only managed a 1-1 draw (0-1) with promoted team SV Elversberg and is still in the middle of the relegation battle with 36 points. Florian Le Joncour gave the Saarlanders, who have 40 points to their name, the lead in the 18th minute. Keke Topp (59th) scored to equalize.

The guests started the game energetically and could have taken the lead early on. However, a powerful shot from Kenan Karaman (6th) only hit the crossbar. After a quarter of an hour Schalke lost their dominance. Shortly after Jannik Rochelt and Paul Wanner missed a double chance, Le Joncour scored with a header to make it 1-0 for Elversberg.

The deficit had an impact on Schalke, who only came back dangerously in front of the opponent’s goal shortly before the break. Again it was Karaman who failed with a header past SVE goalkeeper Nicolas Kristof. Simon Terodde put the rebound next to the post.

When the game restarted, Schalke coach Karel Geraerts brought Derry Murkin’s top spot – and thus showed a lucky touch. After almost an hour, the new man equalized with a direct pass from Karaman. The Royal Blues were now better in the game again, but were then lucky that a shot from Wanner (71′) hit the crossbar and Rochelt (81′), completely free, was denied by the Schalke goalkeeper in front of Marius Müller.
