(Seoul = News 1) Reporter Daehyun Moon = Chairman Song Kyung-yong (58), who was recently elected as the 3rd president of the Seoul Badminton Association, promised to build a dedicated gym to expand the badminton base in Seoul.

Chairman Song met with News 1 after the opening ceremony of the Seoul Mayor’s Badminton Competition held at Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium in Songpa-gu, Seoul on the 20th and presented several measures to satisfy badminton enthusiasts in Seoul.

He promised to △build a gym dedicated to the Seoul Badminton Association △hold a sports festival in which both hobbyists and elite players participate △support the administrative operating expenses of the secretaries of 25 autonomous districts △increase the daily wages of referees and competition organizers △promote corporate sponsorship and promotional marketing. .

Chairman Song was elected with 71 votes in the 3rd Seoul Badminton Association President election held on the 3rd of last month, beating candidate Choi Ho-rim, who received 50 votes.

In his 20s, Chairman Song had experience in various fields, including as a travel agency representative, car salesman, and restaurant business. After opening a restaurant in 1998 and experiencing repeated successes and failures, he rose to become the successful CEO of Onnuri Food System, a restaurant franchise company.

Onnuri Food System is a leader in the restaurant industry with over 40 directly managed and franchised stores in the metropolitan area.

After working in the restaurant business for 26 years, he decided to take on the challenge of becoming the president of the Badminton Association because of the limitations he felt while working as a badminton fan.

There was a lack of space for those who wanted to play badminton purely because they liked it, and in this process, I realized that the association was not playing its role.

Eventually, thanks to the recommendations and help of those around him, he ran for election as president of the Seoul Metropolitan Government Association, was elected, and began his five-year term.

Chairman Song said, “My goal is to allow a larger population to enjoy badminton. If the environment improves and there is a further boom in badminton, high-level elite players can also be fostered, which will soon lead to the enhancement of national prestige.”

He then emphasized, “I plan to lead the Badminton Association based on my experience leading the company for a long time. I will correct the absurdity of the association being run by a few organizations in the past and create a place where elites and recreational athletes can interact together.”

Chairman Song said that based on consultation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, they are preparing to build a badminton-only gym in the Gangnam area through administrative procedures. He also explained that he would seek to make the association financially independent by receiving sponsorship from businesses.

Chairman Song said, “First of all, we must have solid finances to be able to do many things. With the financial resources we have prepared, we will allow our players to enjoy badminton more comfortably. We also plan to increase the daily wages of referees and tournament staff.”

He said, “We are considering ways to encourage the participation of the MZ generation. In addition, our goal is to spread the badminton boom in the metropolitan area by joining forces with the Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi Badminton Associations.” He added, “I am proud as a representative of the badminton population in Seoul.” “I want to work hard and achieve a lot,” he added.
