PP PBSI has not yet decided whether to carry out simulations ahead of the 2024 Thomas Cup and Uber Cup. The limited time is an obstacle.
The prestigious team championship will be held in Chengdu, China, from April 27 to May 5. Each consists of 16 national teams that will participate and try to become champions of the 2024 Thomas Cup and Uber Cup.
Indonesia is one of the national teams preparing for the championship. Moreover, the targets set are also high. The men’s team is trying to win the title, while the women’s team is through to the semifinals.
However, towards this hope, Indonesia faces the challenge of short preparation time. However, the Red-White team and other Asian countries have just finished their matches at the Badminton Asia Championship in Ningbo, China, on April 14.
Several players just arrived in Indonesia on April 15-16. Meanwhile, departure to China is planned for April 23 in the morning.
This also makes the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup simulation plans difficult to carry out.
“Well, we haven’t discussed this yet because the match schedule is quite busy. This is just (returning) from the Asian Championship. There are those who (returned) Monday, Tuesday as a whole (arrived in RI) but there has been no discussion (simulation),” said the Head of the PBSI Achievement Development Division, Ricky Soebagdja, when met at the Cipayung National Training Center, Wednesday (17/4/2024).
“Yes, we’ll see if it’s needed or not. It’s Thursday, Friday, Saturday and it’s very close (departure and championship). So we don’t know yet,” he said.
Simulation itself is important to carry out in the team championship to find out in more detail the team’s strengths and weaknesses. Apart from improving chemistry with each other to make them more unified. Regarding this, Ricky believes that the Indonesian team will have no problems.
“I think we have regular discussions, gatherings, this has also brought the whole team closer. Simulation is important, but looking at conditions like this? The first thing is that we haven’t discussed it yet, but in terms of readiness the players already know, the coaches already know, so I think “There’s no problem,” said Ricky.
