A new generation of environmentalists uses increasingly striking techniques

They have attacked some of the most famous works of art in the world

In Spain there are dozens of members of Futuro Vegetal and Scientific Rebellion charged

Two young people approach the painting of the Dressed Maja by Goya in the Prado Museum. Suddenly, they approach him and press themselves against the frame. They are two members of Vegetable Futurean organization that has carried out several dozen very striking actions to request urgent measures against the climate change. They have thrown paint at institutions, companies and yachts, they have glued themselves to the Congress lectern and they have cut off the M30 in Madrid. They are part of a new environmentalist generation, willing to take risks to get their message across. “We contemplate going to prison since we entered Futuro Vegetal,” they say.

Twenty five members of that group are now imputedamong other charges, for criminal organization. 15 members of Scientific Rebellion will also have to answer to justice for damage to heritage in a protest before Congress. “In the United Kingdom there are already climate activists in jail. Here we may not be very far from seeing it,” says Rafael Ordóñez, journalist and author of “Amor y furia”, an essay in which he analyzes this new activism.
