The Rise of Maxloren Castro: The New Celestial Jewel of Sporting Cristal

It is extremely unusual for a footballer to reach the first division at such a young age; and even more exceptional is standing out in a team of the stature of Sporting Cristal, not only adding minutes, but also contributing significantly to the team. This is precisely the case of Maxloren Castro, who at just 16 years old is emerging as the new celestial jewel. After his official debut with the Rimense team, he has already scored his first official goal and provided an assist, important records for a winger.

Since Enderson Moreira decided to give him a chance in Sporting Cristal’s main squad, Max Castro has accumulated a total of 153 minutes in official competitions since February, both in League 1 and in the Copa Libertadores. It has been in the local tournament where he has had the greatest participation, playing four games and starting in two of them. As for the international competition, Castro recorded his first 13 minutes in the second leg against Always Ready, leaving a positive impression in his debut.

The beginnings of Max Castro

Maxloren Castro was born on December 8, 2007 in Callao and grew up in the Sarita Colonia neighborhood of the Asentamiento Humano Acapulco. It was in this environment where he began to take his first steps in football, playing in neighborhood teams and having his first notable experience in Tiwinza del Callao.

His good performances led him to start his training in Cantolao from the age of 5. In one of the best quarries in the country, he acquired the fundamentals that made him stand out among his peers. At the age of 10, he made the jump to Sporting Cristal to undergo tests in the selective category, which he passed with ease. What came next was his first call to compete in the Federation championship.

Maxloren Castro was constantly used in attacking positions due to his speed and ability to change pace. In the Cristal U-17, he established himself as a winger, performing effectively in that position. Despite being left-footed, he demonstrates versatility by being able to play both profiles. For the U-18 team, they also began to use him as an inside midfielder and playmaker, thus showing his versatility.

It is important to highlight that Castro’s family environment is solid, close and provides him with a firm foundation, which helps him keep his feet on the ground. His main objective is to secure a position at Sporting Cristal and then make the leap to international football. To achieve this, he is clear that his family is his greatest support and priority.

Long-term project in Cristal

In January 2024, Maxloren Castro signed his first three-year professional contract. Given his current performance and the potential that the player shows in the light blue team, the board is evaluating the possibility of expanding his contractual relationship to ensure his permanence in the event of a possible future sale.

Its growth has been so notable that it was not limited only to the reserve. From the U-18 category, he was directly called up to participate in the preseason with the first team. In addition, he was not allowed to travel with the U-20 team to compete in the Copa Libertadores of that category, which shows his importance as a key piece in the main team.

Max Castro in the Peruvian National Team

From La Videna, they are already closely following their progress. In 2023, he received his first call for a microcycle with the U-20 and this year, José Guillermo del Solar called him up again, including him in the sparring team for the senior team led by Jorge Fossati in the friendlies played during the last FIFA date.

It is highly likely that he will become one of the leaders of the U-20 team for the next South American Championship. However, if he continues to excel, there is a possibility that Jorge Fossati will give him an opportunity in the senior team, as he is a coach who relies on youth and emerging talent.
