The women’s hockey players did not score a goal for Canada even in the semi-finals, and they will have to fight for bronze

The Czech women’s ice hockey players lost in the semi-finals of the World Championship in Utica to the favored Canada 0:4, and in the final match of the tournament today at 19:00 CET they will fight for the defense of the bronze medals against Finland. The Canadian women will face Team USA in the subsequent final.

The Czechs lost to the overseas team for the second time at the championship and again failed to overcome goalkeeper Anna-Renee Desbiens, who made only nine saves. Her counterpart, Klára Peslarová, on the other hand, faced 47 shots.

The Canadian women, who beat the Czech team in the basic group 5-0, took the lead in the 5th minute when Turnbull put Peslarová through from an ideal position between the circles. The overseas players were in control of the match and easily overcame the first weakness when Gosling was expelled.

Subsequently, the Canadians did not use the power play either, but Larocque increased their lead in the first period. A reassuring third goal was added after 99 seconds of the second half by Clarková, who scored her own shot from an angle behind Peslarová.

The Czechs tested goalkeeper Desbiensová with a single shot in the opening 20 minutes, were slightly more active in the second period, but did not create a significant chance.

Another goal was added by the 12-time world champions in the 45th minute, when Peslarová was beaten by Fillierová. Only then did the Czech opportunity come. But Desbiensová consulted Tejralová’s ending after Vanišová’s action.

Immediately, Maltaisová got into a separate raid, and she didn’t change the score either. Peslarová was attentive. Poulinová was then helped by the goal structure when finishing.

The Canadian women thus advanced to the expected final against the American women without the slightest problem, the Czechs will fight against Finland for the third bronze medal in a row. In the basic group, the wards of the Canadian coach MacLeod won 4:0.
