Twins Louca and Marek Devost Drafted into Quebec Junior Elite Baseball League

Two original Cayens are now knocking on the doors of the Quebec Junior Elite Baseball League, a circuit which brings together the best amateur baseball players in Quebec aged 18 to 22. This league has thirteen clubs. The twins Louca and Marek Devost, established in Drummondville since 2020, both found buyers during the 2024 draft which took place on April 2.

Louca Devost was taken by the Aigles de Trois-Rivières who chose him in the third round of the first round.

Even though he was hopeful that his name would come up in the first round, he didn’t expect to be chosen so early. “I’m surprised, pleasantly. I am proud. I worked a lot this winter, and with my Cégep team,” he said during the interview with the North Coastal.

Marek Devost had to wait a little longer before also being drafted. He is now the property of the Dukes of Longueuil, who selected him in the third round, 40th choice of the session.

” I am very happy. It was one of the first teams to show up and they are the reigning champions,” he said.

Even if he knows it will be difficult to carve out a position with the Dukes for this summer, the one who plays at the first base position is eager to prove what he can do. He considers himself a reliable player defensively, “but my strength is as a hitter. »

Louca has the same intentions as her twin. “What helps me is that I play multiple positions (2nd base, 3rd base, shortstop and outfield). I have to work on my stick, but I have good speed,” he said.

The two Devosts will also be training with their respective new teams in the coming days. Louca will have two practices per week with the Eagles, one for Marek with the Dukes, between now and the start of preseason games in May.

Originally from Havre-Saint-Pierre, the two brothers have been playing baseball in the Drummondville region since 2020. Last summer, they played with the Faucons de l’Estrie U17 AAA.

In the fall, they aligned themselves with the Drummondville Voltigeurs at the college level, a team that won top honors. Let’s say that they followed in the footsteps of their older brother, Félix, who also wore the colors of Cégep de Drummondville in baseball. “It’s a bit thanks to him that we moved here,” Louca mentioned.

Louca and Marek Devost emphasized that it was in Havre-Saint-Pierre that they started to love baseball. They continued their development in Drummondville.

If they fail to secure a position within their LBJEQ team, the two 18-year-old athletes will play in the U18 AA.

For their greatest ambitions, they are not there yet. The Quebec Junior Elite Baseball League is, just like its penchant for hockey with the QMJHL, a springboard towards the professional circuits.

Pride

If the two Cayens say they are proud to have been selected in the Quebec Junior Elite League draft, pride is also felt among the Havre-Saint-Pierre Amateur Baseball Association.

“It represents an incredible achievement. The Devost twins are going to be ambassadors for all our young baseball players on the North Shore. Their draft last night is proof for us that the Baseball Quebec slogan, Dream bigcan be achieved,” expressed Stéphane Gallant, representative of the Association.
