North Lindero.- The delegation made up of 322 athletes that will represent the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) in the 2024 Regional Universiade was flagged today by the rector, Dr. Luis Enrique Palafox Maestre.
The representative athletes will compete in the disciplines of chess, athletics, badminton, basketball, baseball, fencing, soccer, gymnastics, handball, judo, karate, weightlifting, softball, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, among others.
Dr. Luis Enrique Palafox Maestre recognized the young people who, in addition to studying a degree, practice a sport professionally, since it means a special effort and requires constant organization to manage to combine their academic obligations with their sporting discipline.
“Being a university athlete means upholding the values of the university and representing with honor the UABC and the entire community,” that is, more than 70,000 people including students, academic, administrative and service personnel, as well as graduates and the graduates of the highest house of study.
Likewise, the rector congratulated them for becoming representatives of the UABC, wished them success in the regional competition and invited them to perform with a spirit of play, to uphold university values and to wear the university colors with pride.
For his part, the director of the Faculty of Sports, Dr. Emilio Manuel Arrayales Millán, told the athletes that the Maroon community sees itself reflected in them. Likewise, he shared with them that they are a source of university pride and their participation takes relevance in the creation of the university identity, since they stimulate the union between the maroons and the maroons who meet to support them in each of the academic units.
The 2024 Regional Universiade is organized by the National Sports Council of Education AC (CONDDE) and will take place from April 9 to 17 at the UABC, the Autonomous University of Sinaloa and the Technological Institute of Sonora.
