UnipolSai Fortitudo L’Aquila Signs Dominican Pitcher for Opening Game

Next week, after tomorrow’s last test against Parma, there will be the opening game against Grosseto. And in view of this debut – let’s not forget that UnipolSai will be the reigning champion team – here is the first visa spent by L’Aquila. While waiting to understand if there will be any light on Porfirio Lopez and Raul Rivero, currently in Mexico, Christian Mura, general manager of Fortitudo, has reached an agreement with Eduar Lopez, originally from the Dominican Republic, where he was born on 21 February 1995 .

Right-handed pitcher, Lopez (the same name as Porfirio, seen at work a year ago with excellent results), has several seasons behind him as a protagonist in the Minor League, Mexican League and Caribbean Series.

He is a powerful pitcher – 183 centimeters and 85 kilos – who at 17 signed a contract with the Los Angeles Angels, who included him in their rookie league team in the Dominican Summer League.

From the start, Lopez showed off a powerful arm and clear starting characteristics. In 2012, at a very young age, he contested 12 races (11 starts) obtaining 2 victories. The following year he played 14 games (13 as a starter), finishing with a 6-2 record. In 2014 he moved to the Arizona League, playing 11 matches and scoring 53 strikeouts in 42.1 innings.

In the following year he completed his rookie career, playing for two teams: Orem Owlz (Pioneer League) and Princeton Rays (Appalachian League). In 2016 he made 5 starts with Hudson Valley Renegade (single A short season) and 8 with Bowling Green Hot Rods (single A, Midwest League), finishing with 8 wins and 3 losses. The following year he disputed with Charlotte Stone Crabs (advanced single-A, Florida State League), getting on the scoresheet on 27 occasions, with 21 starts and 9 victories.

In 2018 he concluded his journey in the Minors by playing 12 games (11 as a starter) in double A with Montgomery Biscuits (Southern League), with an excellent record of 5-2. He then moved to the Independent League with the New Jersey Jackals (Canadian-American Association), obtaining one victory (with a complete shutout) in 4 starts. An injury and the pandemic keep him away from the diamonds until the winter of 2021-22, where he returns in spectacular fashion to the Colombian Winter League. With Caimanes de Barranquilla he won the title of MVP of the championship final. Then Guerreros de Oaxaca and Vaqueros de Monteria.

Now he is ready to make himself available to the pitching coach, Fabio Betto and the manager Daniele Frignani.
