Mikautadze told L’Équipe last week that he spent more than two months in a hotel after being signed by Ajax. “Ajax did not help me much in looking for an apartment. I was alone in that room, I went crazy,” the Georgian said. “I rented an Airbnb on my own, where my family lived with me for over a month.”

Journalist Mike Verweij is not surprised by the statements. After all, Mikautadze is not the first Ajax player to complain about player guidance. “It’s one of our hobbyhorses. I have already said that Václav Cerny was sitting alone in a house in PC Hooftstraat at the time, where the supporters were at the door after he missed a chance against De Graafschap. The care and guidance of players can and must be so much better at Ajax.”
“Open a can of students who are ready, running and flying for those guests,” Verweij advises in the podcast Kick-Off. “Take in those guests and make sure they get a good apartment, so they don’t have to stay in a hotel for weeks.” Driessen, however, believes that the players are showing up. “They are all adult guests who are crying. That makes me so tired. That pathetic man…”
“What Mikautadze is doing, and I understand that, is that he is making Ajax very bad. And it doesn’t make any sense at all. But he wants to force a transfer,” Driessen thinks. “Ajax may still be asking too much, so to push the price down he will say things like this, so that a return is hardly possible.” However, Verweij thinks that Driessen thinks about the problem too easily. “You can make it all ridiculous, but when Akpom says it, Mikautadze, Álvarez, Cerny…”
