When will the Athletic Barge leave: day, time and place

Athletic Club won the Copa del Rey last Saturday after defeating RCD Mallorca in a penalty shootout 4-2. 40 years later the lions win a new title and now all the fans are waiting to see the Gabarra again, a boat that was built in 1960 at the Celaya Shipyards after the order of the Autonomous Port of Bilbao, and that sailed for the last time in the celebration of the 1984 League and Cup double.

Day, time and place of departure of the Barge

La Gabarra will leave next Thursday, April 11, five days after the Copa del Rey final. The tour will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the afternoon at the Real Club Marítimo del Abra in Getxo and will end around 6:30 p.m. at the Bilbao City Hall bridge.

Route:

2:30 p.m., prior meeting 4:30 p.m., departure from the Real Club Marítimo del Abra in Getxo 6:30 p.m., arrival at Bilbao City Hall 7:00 p.m., return of the Barge to the water

Once the players arrive at the City Hall, they will be received by the Mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto and, later, the president of Athletic, Jon Uriarte, the coach, Ernesto Valverde and the first captain, Iker Muniain, will speak and give a speech in front of to the fans.

Afterwards, the players and the coaching staff will board a bus and pass through the Arenal and the Plaza Circular until they reach the Provincial Council of Vizaya, where they will be received by the General Deputy of Vizcaya, Elixabete Etxanobe.

After the protocols, the players will greet the fans present and a historic celebration will come to an end.

160 boats will accompany the Gabarra

The Athletic Club and the authorities allow other boats to accompany the Gabarra through the estuary. Those who do so must pay “a variable registration fee.” As reported by the club on its official website, the maximum quota has been filled and up to 160 boats will accompany the Gabarra during its journey next Thursday, April 11.
