Tour de Tietema-Unibet has announced the selection for the Amstel Gold Race, the first WorldTour race in the team’s history. It is also the first competition at this highest level for all seven riders. Hartthijs de Vries, Jelle Johannink and Owen Geleijn are the Dutch in the selection.
Tour de Tietema-Unibet has had a ProTeam license since this year. The team is not automatically invited to WorldTour competitions, the competitions of the highest level, but the team received a wildcard for the Amstel Gold Race. The classic on Dutch soil is therefore a highlight for the riders and guidance.
In addition to De Vries, Johannink and Geleijn, half Dutchmen Tomas Kopecky (Czech Republic), Adam Toupalik (Czech Republic), Lander Loockx (Belgium) and Zeb Kyffin (Great Britain) are also going. They complete the selection of TDT-Unibet.
Bas Tietema: “Working towards this milestone”
“We have worked together towards this milestone in the first few months,” says Bas Tietema, founder of the team and team leader himself during the Amstel Gold Race, in a press release. “The victories in the Tour of Antalya and Ster van Zwolle were nice and perhaps the most eye-catching, but we as a team also learned a lot in the races where we were not on the podium for whatever reason.”
The historic day for Tour de Tietema is also celebrated with its fans, because at the Geulhemermolen at the foot of the Geulhemmerberg the team has its own TDT Café to experience the race day.
