Women’s Six Nations tournament: record attendance for France-England on Saturday in Bordeaux

A historic match, whatever happens. More than 22,000 tickets were sold for the Crunch between France and England, closing the Women’s Six Nations Tournament. It’s this Saturday (5:45 p.m.) at the Chaban-Delmas stadium in Bordeaux, and it’s already an attendance record for a women’s rugby match on French soil, the FFR announced this Tuesday. The previous record was set in Grenoble last year during the France-Wales match of the 2023 Six Nations Tournament with 18,604 spectators.

For this real final of the 2024 Tournament (the winner will make the Grand Slam and win the Tournament), there could even be even more spectators. There are still places available in the old Lescure park, an enclosure which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and whose capacity is 28,500 spectators. Tickets are sold from 5 euros (for children under 15) and 10 euros for adults, on the FFR website.

Grand Slam goal

At this price, the Bleues of captain Manae Feleu can still hope to play sold out by Saturday, in a stadium which is used to being full for its local men’s team (the Union Bordeaux-Bègles has the best attendance of the Top 14). And this even if the UBB will play at the same time, at 5 p.m., an important derby 180 km away, in Bayonne.

The objective for the French women’s XV, 3rd nation in the world, will be to seduce this audience and above all to win, finally, against the Red Roses, 1st in the world and undefeated against the Blues since 2018, date of the last French Grand Slam.

Last year, for their last opposition, already for the Grand Slam in the Six Nations Tournament, the English beat the French (38-33), despite the resounding comeback of the Bleues. It was at Twickenham in front of 58,498 spectators. The world attendance record for a women’s rugby match.
