Xàtiva Badminton Club Dominates Regional Championship with 8 Medals

The Xàtiva Badminton Club won last weekend with 8 medals in the Regional Championship held in the capital of the Costera and in the Spanish Parabadminton International held in Vitoria (Basque Country). In the tournament for the sub-11, sub-15 and Absolute categories, CB Xàtiva won seven medals, highlighting the dominance of the athletes of the Setabe club in the under-15 category, with five medals: four gold and one silver.

Last Sunday, the Francisco Ballester pavilion in Xàtiva was the epicenter of badminton in the Valencian Community with the Autonomous Under-11, Under-15 and Absolute Championships, which brought together 86 athletes from 12 clubs. CB Xàtiva participated with nine athletes, standing out in the under-15 category, where the people from Seta were the dominators in the men’s and women’s singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles events. This great performance was joined by two bronzes in the absolute category.

In the women’s under-15 individual event, Martina Molina won the gold after beating Goya Vallés by 21-11 and 21-15. The men’s singles had a final in Sebastián, with the duel between Feliu Terol and Meshack Martínez that ended with the victory of Feliu, who took the gold, and Meshack the silver. Aleix Seguí and Alexis Piñero also competed in the men’s singles, finishing fifth after reaching the quarterfinals. In women’s competition, Irene Orquín could not get past the first round.

In men’s doubles, Alexis Piñero and Meshack Martínez were proclaimed champions -gold medal-, after beating the couple formed by Diego Gazquez and Izan Martínez in the final by 21-15, 16-21 and 21-19. For its part, in the under-15 mixed doubles CB Xàtiva played with two couples: Feliu and Martina and Aleix and Irene. The former won the gold medal after beating Germán Ripoll and Flavia Bocica in the final by 21-19 and 24-22. Thus, Feliu Terol and Martina Molina rose to the top of the podium and added another gold to their personal account.

In the senior category, David Polop and Vicent Molina won the bronze medal in the men’s doubles after losing in the semifinals against José Alberto Arguisuelas and Akis Leo Thomas by 21-15 and 21-13. In the women’s doubles, Andrea Orquín played alongside Soraya Gandia, from CB Enguera, and they also achieved bronze after winning two of the three matches played. In mixed doubles, the Xàtiva club competed with the pairs formed by Vicent and Andrea and David with Soraya Gandia, from CB Enguera. The two couples could not access the final phase of the tournament.

After the absolute competition, the medal ceremony took place for the regional champions of the 2024 season, an event attended by the president of the Badminton Federation of the Valencian Community, Ferran Feliu; and the Councilor for Sports of Xàtiva, Vicent Lluch.

Spanish Parabadminton

CB Xàtiva’s other medal last weekend came at the Spanish Parabadminton International held in Vitoria from April 15 to 21. At the event he competed Thomas Wandschneider, from the Setabe club, who won the silver medal in the men’s individual event in the WH1 category. Thomas lost in the final against the Korean Jeong Jaegun by 21-17, 23-25 ​​and 22-20. In the men’s doubles WH1/WH2, in which Thomas played with Rick Cornell, the couple took fifth place after losing in the quarterfinals against Jeong Jaegun and Yu Sooyoung by 22-20 and 21-18.

Fry School Games

Besides, CB Xàtiva was also present last weekend in the fourth and last provincial day of the School Games of the Valencian Community in the youth category, which took place in Valencia. The event decided the qualifiers for the Provincial Championship that will be held on May 11 in Xàtiva, and for which several Setabe athletes have qualified. In the men’s individual, Arnau Ballester and Joel Mahiques have qualified, and in the women’s, Elsa Aliaga. In women’s doubles there will be Laia Blau and Carla Soler; and in doubles Arnau Ballester and Adrià Meseguer; Elsa Aliaga and Joel Mahiques.

Upcoming competitions

The Xàtiva Badminton Club will play the Top TTR Absolute and Senior tournament this Sunday in Ibi, which will be attended by eight athletes from the club. CB For its part, Thomas Wandschneider will play the Spanish Para Badminton in Toledo; while the players club cadets will contest the fourth and last day of the School Games in the categorywhich will take place in Villena.

Furthermore, athletes Martina Molina, Feliu Terol, Meshack Martínez and Alexis Piñero have been summoned to attend the first concentration of U-15 and U-17 teams which will take place this Sunday in Enguera. The event will serve to select the athletes who will be part of the regional teams to compete in the Spanish Championship for school-age teams.
