Sebastian Ofner makes it into the main competition of the ATP 250 tournament in Geneva.
The Styrian, who inserted the clay court event in Switzerland into his tournament calendar at short notice and therefore had to qualify, beat the Russian Ivan Gakhov in two sets 7:5, 6:2 in the second qualifying round.
In the main competition, Ofner will now face the Australian Rinky Hijikata in round one. The 23-year-old is currently number 79 in the world and is therefore 33 positions behind the ÖTV-Daviscupper. The two meet for the first time in Geneva.
If he wins, Ofner would face second-seeded Norwegian Casper Ruud in the round of 16.
