Amandine Buchard Wins Bronze at Judo World Championships in Abu Dhabi

Olympic vice-champion Amandine Buchard (-52 kg) won the bronze medal on Sunday at the World Championships in Abu Dhabi. Reigning European champion, Buchard dominated the Hungarian Reka Pupp on waza-ari in the bronze match after 1′45 of combat.

In the absence of a more precious metal, “Bubuche” offers itself a fifth world bronze medal (after 2014, 2018, 2022 and 2023). It thus unlocks the France counter for this first day.

A journey strewn with pitfalls

The 28-year-old judoka was able to remobilize after a cruel defeat in the semi-final. While the referee had first disqualified her opponent, the Italian Odette Giuffrida, he was overruled by video refereeing and it was ultimately the Frenchwoman who received a third penalty, synonymous with the end of the fight, during the extension, for false attack.

Earlier, she had to wait for extra time to tip the German Mascha Ballhaus onto her back, on a successful counter-attack. She started the day with a nice inside swat on the Portuguese Maria Siderot before having a little more difficulty against the Hungarian Roza Gyertyas, who came out after two waza-ari.

These Worlds serve as the final preparation for the Olympic Games and Amandine Buchard is reassured and confirms that she will indeed be a contender for the medal. Other French people should be followed during this competition, starting with the six-time individual world champion Clarisse Agbegnenou.
