While Rafael Nadal declared that he might not participate in Roland‐Garros if he did not feel physically ready, Andy Roddick, in the latest broadcast of his podcast, explained why he had difficulty believing the Spanish champion.
“At the start of the tournament, he said: ‘If I feel like I feel physically right now, with the confidence, without knowing what I have, I don’t know if I will play at Roland‐Garros’, this which I tend not to believe. I think he’s a master at under-promising and over-delivering. In his youth, he approached the first round of Roland Garros against a player ranked 70th in the world and said to himself: ‘I don’t know, it could go either way.’ Before, I didn’t really believe it, I rolled my eyes when he said it, but now I honestly think he’s assuming it could go wrong, that he’s going to do his best to make sure it doesn’t. not the case and that he will give the best of himself.
