BVB, news and rumors – Hans-Joachim Watzke announces transfer offensive: “We are planning with a transfer deficit”

BVB, News: Neven Subotic wishes Marco Reus and Mats Hummels the Champions League title

Neven Subotic, a former professional footballer at Borussia Dortmund, is keeping his fingers crossed for his former teammates in the Champions League final. “I also wrote to Mats (Hummels/ed.) privately. He and Marco (Reus/ed.) are representatives of our generation, who were in the final back then and didn’t make it. It would be even better if they won it. I would almost feel involved because I really value both of them a lot,” said Subotic in an interview with Sport1.

In 2013, Subotic, Hummels and Reus lost the German Champions League final at Wembley against Bayern Munich 2-1. Eleven years later, Hummels (35) and Reus (35) will have another chance to win Europe’s football crown on Saturday (9 p.m./ZDF and DAZN) against Real Madrid at the same venue. While Reus will certainly leave the club, Hummels’ future is unclear. “They have had great careers. Marco still needs something for the showcase. I wish him that with all my heart,” said Subotic, who played for BVB from 2008 to 2018 and ended his career in 2022.

Subotic sees BVB as the underdog against Real. “We know that we need luck again, like in the semi-finals and quarter-finals. Where the opponent only shoots at the crossbar and post and we might let one roll in (laughs). The chances are not that high against Real Madrid, but there is a chance,” said the 35-year-old. In any case, said Subotic, Dortmund “will have to fight, whether Mats Hummels scrapes the ball off the line or Marco Reus defends in his own 16-yard box. Otherwise I see no chance of using this small chance of winning.”
