Carlo Ancelotti to Rotate Squad Ahead of Champions League Final

Coach Carlo Ancelotti is also making everything at Real Madrid subordinate to the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund in the coming weeks. “Of course I will rotate. We also have to rest because it has been a very strenuous season,” said the 64-year-old before the league game at Granada FC on Saturday (6.30 p.m.). The Royals have not been able to take away their 36th championship title since last week.

The Madrilenians, who narrowly beat German record champions Bayern Munich in the semi-finals, have four league games ahead of them before the final on June 1st at London’s Wembley Stadium. There will also be breaks for national players Antonio Rüdiger and Toni Kroos. Ancelotti only wants to talk about the future of Kroos, whose contract expires at the end of the season, after the premier class final.

The Italian gave special praise to attacker Vinicius Junior, who had repeatedly caused problems for the Munich defense. The Brazilian could win the Ballon d’Or, he was “very close,” said Ancelotti. Vinicius contributed a lot to reaching the final, “but I don’t want to forget what the others did, because this is Real Madrid’s moment – at least until June 1st, then it can be Dortmund’s moment.”

Ticket sales for the final are slow in Madrid. 24 hours after the window opened, only 8,500 inquiries had been received.
