Last season, Hansa Rostock fans repeatedly attracted negative attention through rioting. The violence escalated during the away game in Paderborn. A supporter must now answer for grievous bodily harm.

Around five months after the violent riots by supporters of FC Hansa Rostock, who have since been relegated from the second division, at a match against SC Paderborn, the public prosecutor’s office has charged a man from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with pushing a Paderborn fan down the stairs. The 39-year-old from the district of Nordwestmecklenburg is therefore accused of dangerous bodily harm, the Paderborn public prosecutor’s office announced on Tuesday.

During the second division match on December 15, 2023, he is said to have climbed over a fence from the away section into the adjacent home area while the game was still in progress. He is said to have then approached an opposing fan unnoticed, who was watching the game standing on the top step of the stairs. He is said to have pushed him so hard in the back that he fell headfirst over the seats in front of him and remained unconscious a few steps further down.

According to the results of the investigation, it was only by chance that he suffered no more serious injuries than a bleeding laceration, the statement continued. There is no date yet for the trial at the Paderborn District Court.

Even after that, fans of the Baltic Sea football club repeatedly made negative headlines with violent outbursts – most recently a week ago at their club’s season finale and relegation match. The club has announced that it will investigate the incidents.
