Borussia Dortmund has apparently found a new sponsor. According to the Handelsblatt newspaper, the Rheinmetall company will be visible on advertising boards in the future. The arms company’s business is currently going well.

The arms company Rheinmetall is set to become a sponsor of Bundesliga football club Borussia Dortmund. This was reported by the Handelsblatt newspaper. Neither the club nor the company commented on the matter.

According to the report, a three-year partnership was concluded that is expected to bring BVB a single-digit million amount per year. Rheinmetall is benefiting from the Russian attack on Ukraine in February 2022. The share price of Germany’s largest arms manufacturer has increased roughly fivefold since then. The group is also receiving additional funds from the federal government. Rheinmetall estimates that it will receive around 30 billion step by step from a 100 billion euro special fund for the Bundeswehr – this will be spread over a period of several years, which is usual for arms contracts.

The company’s logo will be visible on advertising boards as early as Wednesday during Dortmund’s preparations for the Champions League final. The jerseys will not be affected by the agreement. Borussia will face Real Madrid at London’s Wembley Stadium on Saturday and will fight for victory in the premier class.

“It’s time for this series to end”

BVB are going into the match as clear underdogs. Nevertheless, Dortmund coach Edin Terzic firmly believes that his team will win against the 14-time title holders of the European premier class. “It’s time for this series to end,” said Terzic. Since the start of the successor competition to the European Cup in the 1992/1993 season, Real have won all eight finals that they have reached since then.

“It’s about breaking the game down to one game. I am firmly convinced that anything is possible in a game,” Terzic continued, recalling his team’s convincing performances in the Champions League so far this season: “And if anyone has shown that you can achieve anything in a game, it’s us.”
