Disappointment and Reflection: Post-Match Analysis with Tennis Player on Defeat

“How do you analyze this defeat?
Lots of disappointment. We must already congratulate Ben (Shelton), he is a very good player. Now, I didn’t have my best match but I made do with what I had today. I have some regrets about the end of sets. Same for the start of the second round, even if I’m in front, I get broken quite quickly. So there you have it, disappointment and a little frustration but that’s tennis. Against this type of player, when you break, you have to confirm immediately behind and that’s what I didn’t manage to do. But I still managed to annoy him a little.

You were used to playing here in crazy atmospheres, how did you experience the support of the public during the match?
Well (smile), the audience encouraged me a lot, it was crazy. The public gave everything, I would have liked to give back to them but that’s how it is. I will try to improve and be better next year. Playing on a field like that is lucky, I had goosebumps.

After your elimination in the quarter-finals at the ATP 250 in Lyon against Giovanni Mpetshi-Perricard, you mentioned foot pain. How did you feel today?
I didn’t feel any pain when I arrived in Paris. At the end of last week, I had an MRI which revealed nothing so that was a relief. I didn’t have any discomfort so I’m not going to hide behind a potential injury. The body is fine, the mind is fine even if there is disappointment after the defeat.

Did the rain and interruptions bother you?
I think it bothered everyone (laughs). There’s not much we can do anyway. You would have thought that it could be to my advantage at the start of the second set, but Ben managed to come back better than me. But the match was not decided on that. »
