Excitement Builds for Third Edition of Danube Upper Austria Open powered by SKE as Main Competition Draws Near

There are only a few hours left until the third edition of the Danube Upper Austria Open powered by SKE.

On Saturday evening, not only the qualification but also the main competition of the ATP 100 Challenger in Mauthausen was drawn. The first big highlight awaits Dennis Novak with Lucas Pouille (FRA) and the former number 10 in the world.

Some exciting duels and interesting first round tasks also await the red-white-red tennis aces in the main competition of the Danube Upper Austria Open powered by SKE. While Joel Schwärzler and Sebastian Sorger still have to wait for their opponents, the remaining local quartet can already prepare for their opponents. Dennis Novak was chosen as the most prominent name: Frenchman Lucas Pouille, who has already celebrated five titles on the ATP World Tour and reached the Grand Slam semi-finals at the Australian Open in 2019. “A really good player and a difficult opponent at the start. Lucas wasn’t ranked number 10 in the world for nothing. In the last few weeks I have stabilized my game and got up to speed really well. I’m trying to use the home advantage and show my best tennis. It will depend on many factors, but I will play aggressively from the start and move him. I’m already looking forward to our third meeting,” said Novak.

Filip Misolic, who only had to admit defeat after more than five hours in a nerve-wracking final last year, will face the Swiss Marc-Andrea Hüsler, Sandro Kopp will challenge Juan Manuel Cerundolo (ARG) and Lukas Neumayer will face the number three seeded Canadian Gabriel Diallo.

The wild cards are taken

For the main competition, the two red-white-red tennis players Sandro Kopp and Sebastian Sorger were given a wildcard. The third wildcard goes to Joel Schwärzler. The Vorarlberg native, who is currently number one in the ITF Junior Rankings, secured his starting place this way. The four qualifying wildcards also go to Austria. In addition to Matthias Ujvary, who recently started playing for Union Mauthausen in the Bundesliga and sensationally made it into the main competition in 2023, Lucas Miedler, Niklas Waldner and Manuel Lazic were also given a ticket.

Red-white-red sextet in the main competition
